Established 2020
Highland Cows of the Peak started in 2020 to champion the physical and mental health benefits of being around highland cows, and enjoying them out in their natural environment, helping to reduce anxiety, our heart rate and lower blood pressure. A recent study found getting hands-on with Highland Cattle helps lower the stress chemical cortisol and elevates levels of the neurochemicals oxytocin, serotonin, beta endorphins, and can boost your dopamine by 21%!
Being one of the first to offer Highland Cow Experiences in England, with Highlanders increasing in popularity over the last few years, others have followed suit offering a variety of tours, safaris, highland cattle getaways, farm visits, highland cow afternoon tea, and cow cuddling. However, with our partnership with MaHuRuCo Highlands, we’d like to think we still offer one of the most original and best highland cow experiences available in the UK today.
Often imootated, never equalled!
Through Highland Cow Walks, Photography Workshops and Experiences we hope to help others who share a passion for these grass puppies benefit from destressing with what we like to call ‘Highland Cow Therapy’.
Our Facebook group has also become a great community, that shares a love of highland cattle, helping people to meet, pet, cuddle and photograph these beautiful beasts safely in and around the Peak District.
Sustainable Farming
We're traditional livestock farmers and run a variety of pedigree breeds including Dexter and Highland Cows, Boer Goats as well as Herdwick, Hebridean, Shropshire and Scottish Blackface Sheep to serve the onsite farm shop and our local community. We provide educational tours on our working farm in Sheffield giving opportunity for visitors from all over the country to come and learn more about where their food comes from.
All our cattle are pedigree and our Highland Cows are registered with the Highland Cattle Society of which Ash is a Trustee.
We are also members of the North of England Highland Cattle Breeders Club (NEHCBC). We strongly believe in the Highlanders and are doing our best to improve the breed. We prefer to use natural breeding methods rather than to save money using modern artificial insemination.
We also work with Sheffield & Rotherham and Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts to provide cows for local conservational grazing.
We are proud to be HiHealth Herdcare Accredited Disease Free. The cattle health scheme enables you to eliminate disease from your herd. Testing for the five main diseases found in Highland Cattle.
