Sponsor Our Highland Cows
Adopt a Highland Cow packages, make ideal gifts for a birthday, anniversary or also a wonderful memento of a visit to one of our Highland Cow Experiences.
Highland cattle are hardy, fluffy cows that will eat a wide range of vegetation unpalatable to most cattle, and can live outside in all seasons and weather. These iconic coos graze our pleasant pastures on our traditional farm in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on the edge of the Peak District. The UK’s first national park.
Adopting one of our highlands helps us provide for the livestock and carry out day-to-day management and health checks.
Sponsorship is a one-off fee valid for one year.

Highland Cow
Scientific name: Bos taurus
Highland Cows were domesticated thousands of years ago and are the oldest breed of cattle in the world!
Highland cows are a rich brown colour and are known for their long, wavy coats. They are originally from the mountainous areas of west Scotland and so need their long coats to keep them warm in cold winters. They have an unusual double coat, consisting of a fleecy undercoat and an oily overcoat. This helps them to withstand extremely low temperatures, and they can cope with temperatures down to -40°C.
Highland cattle have two horns on top of their heads, which they use to dig through thick snow to find vegetation to eat. They also use their horns to defend themselves from predators and other rival cows.
Eat, sleep, graze, repeat!
An average Highland cow weighs around 500 kg and can spend up to 8 hours a day grazing! These hardy herbivores love to spend their time munching on grasses, leaves, and other vegetation, often consuming around 10% of their own body weight daily.
